You stay up to date with late-breaking news about school nursing and school health issues on both the state and national level. Anne Sheetz, Director, MDPH SHS, sends weekly reports about school health issues in Massachusetts. Clinical updates on pandemic flu, diabetes, emergency preparedness, health and nutrition education, etc. are issued on a frequent basis. MSNO's Policy Strategists send Legislative Alerts and Fact Sheets which allow timely contact with state legislators and officials. Recently, legislators responded by supporting changes to Chapter 71 which gave professional status to school nurses. Currently, MSNO members are keeping legislators informed about the Essential School Health Services so that they will be adequately funded in the 2008 budget. Your subscription contributes to the reduction of MSNO's mailing costs, which makes your dues money go farther. Postage stamps cost money; e-mail is free. Subscribing to MSNOnurse Service is a free e-mail service both for you and MSNO. Nothing is deducted from your annual dues. Volunteers staff the service. Your MSNOnurse subscription allows the money saved to be used for educational conferences, funding MSNO's legislative consultant, maintaining alliances with other professional and health organizations and meeting pressing organizational needs. Confidentiality of members' e-mail addresses has been an essential part of MSNOnurse.
