Conference Objectives
  • Summarize research and evaluation findings related to school nursing practice.
  • Describe federal, state, territorial, tribal or local efforts to promote health or prevent disease and disability in the school community.
  • Discuss collaborative practices to support prevention policies, programs, or campaigns (physical activity, healthy diet, medical screenings, and healthy choices).
  • Explain prevention strategies that use multidisciplinary approaches for addressing wellness issues facing school communities.
  • Facilitate interaction on a professional and social level.

    Conference Objectives
  • Describe the etiology and pathophysiology of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes in youth
  • Identify current treatment plans and tools utilized in the management of diabetes in children and adolescents and apply them to the school setting
  • Define the purpose of Diabetes Medical Management Plans, 504 plans, and IEPs and list 2 resources available to develop them
  • List the primary causes for the increase in type 2 diabetes in children and adolescents
