The William P. Doran Annual Award for School Nurse Excellence
An award to recognize school nurses in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts who have made significant contributions
to the health of children and adolescents while maintaining high standards of professional and personal integrity
Eligibility
A school nurse (RN) providing health services to children and adolescents and currently employed by a public or
private school system in the Commonwealth.
Qualities to be Sought
- Effectiveness in promoting the health of the school population through health services and health education.
- Sensitivity to the needs of children and their families
- Committment to high standards of school nursing practice
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues in both the school and local community
Members of The William P. Doran Foundation review the letters of nomination and recommend a candidate for the award.
The award is intended to be used to enhance professional development of the school nurse chosen as the award recipient.

DEADLINE: September 1, 2007
The Foundation requests at least three letters of nomination be submitted for each applicant. Letters may be from
nursing colleagues, administrators, teachers, parent and/or students.
Each nomination letter should contain the following information about the person nominated:
- Current position and responsibilities
- Work and professional background (including credentials)
- The basis of familiarity with the nominee and his/her work
- The qualities and performance which make the nominee worthy of the award.
This year's winner will receive an all expense
paid trip to the 2008 National School Nurse Association's National Convention, or $2000
towards the cost of a college course.
The award winner will be recognized at this year's annual MSNO fall conference.
Deadline for submitting an application is September 1, 2007.
